Solutions focused therapy

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a form of solution-focused speaking therapy which is reinforced using hypnosis. At the start of a session, we’ll discuss possible solutions to the challenges you’re facing, and then we’ll use hypnosis to embed what has been discussed.

But unlike what you might see on TV, hypnosis isn’t a form of mind control. You won’t end up saying things you don’t want to say or suddenly acting strangely!

Tell me more about the solution element? What sets Solution Focused Hypnotherapy apart from many other therapies is that it’s a forward-looking approach. Rather than looking back at the possible causes of your current difficulties, it focuses on your present situation and your hopes for your future. And by doing so under hypnosis, when your mind is relaxed and more open to suggestion, you can arrive at the solution more quickly, and often with more positive outcomes.

A goal-orientated therapy Setting clear goals for the future is a vital element of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Together we’ll agree specific and achievable goals for your therapy sessions, based on what you would like your future to look like.

Harnessing your inner strength Then I’ll guide you along your journey. I’ll encourage you to dig deep and find your own inner strength. You will need to make the changes yourself, but if you’re fully committed and ready to put in the work, a solution-focused therapy can bring about life-changing results.

Tell me more about hypnosis? Hypnosis is a very effective way to expedite change. It’s a deep form of relaxation when our mind becomes more open to suggestion, which can be extremely useful when we want to unlearn habits that we’ve created over time.

Breaking learned habits As we move through life, we train our brain to learn certain skills or habits that once learnt, are moved to our subconscious brain. Like riding a bike, for example, or driving a car. As we learn the skill, a neural pathway is created from our conscious to our subconscious brain so eventually we don’t even need to think about how to carry out that task anymore - our subconscious brain does it automatically for us. And as we continue to repeat it, the path gets well-trodden and engrained in our subconscious. And this is great – all very efficient. Except for when the habit that’s been created is not a desired one, such as over-drinking, smoking, OCD, phobias or anxiety, amongst others.

A new way of thinking What hypnosis can do is interrupt and shift this neural pathway to introduce a new way of thinking. As we reach a trance-like state under hypnosis, our mind shifts from being fully alert to being very relaxed, enabling us to visualise positive images and consider new ways of living. Our mind becomes much more pliable and we can make changes to our subconscious that then impact positively on our daily life.
